Why the Patriot card is the right option
How is the Patriot card different from other prepaid debit cards?
Here are some of the reasons why the Patriot card is so unique:
- Funding the card: The Patriot card is a payment card that allows you to load funds onto it in advance, using direct deposit, transferring money from a bank account, card-to-card transfers4, or by depositing cash at any of 60,000 Visa® Readylink3 locations. Because the card is not “attached” to a checking account, only the money deposited on it is ever at risk of loss.
- It’s a “smart” debit card: What makes the Patriot card “smart” and different from other prepaid debit cards is that the Patriot card has both a routing number and an account number, similar to a traditional checking account. This allows you to conveniently use features such as bill payment and direct deposit. The Patriot card also comes in both physical and virtual versions1.
- It’s a safe card: The Patriot card’s unique card controls allow cardholders to limit card use based on time, place, transaction amount, and other criteria. These card controls make the Patriot card safer than most traditional debit cards. The Patriot card also provides real-time transaction alerts and an immediate “card off” option keeping you in control.
- It’s a card you can give your kids or a caregiver: Patriot cardholders can create multiple plastic or virtual cards1, which can be given to children or caregivers or used for any other specific purpose. You can then control when, where, and how the card is used including turning the card “off” if you see a suspicious transaction. Cardholders can also produce a one-time-use virtual card. Because each virtual card has its own routing and account number, limiting the amount of money on each card limits its vulnerability to fraudsters or thieves.
How is the Patriot card the same as other debit cards?
Funds deposited on a Patriot card are stored in a bank, which means they are FDIC insured. Like traditional debit cards, the Patriot card can be used for purchases, online transactions, and ATM withdrawals. The Patriot card can be used everywhere Visa® or AFFN® is accepted.
Does the Patriot card have an app?
Do I need a bank account if I have a Patriot card?
No. Although many Patriot card holders will connect their cards to their bank account so they can move funds from their account to their card, the Patriot card can also be funded by direct deposit, card-to-card transfers4, or by loading cash at any of 60,000 Visa® Readylink3 locations. Because each Patriot card has its own routing and account numbers, it can be used like a bank account. Because funds stored on a Patriot card are held by Peoples State Bank, Shepherd, TX, they are FDIC insured.
Why should I use a card like the Patriot card?
There are many reasons why using the Patriot card is a wise financial decision. Here are just a few: Because the Patriot card is not directly connected to your bank account, lost or stolen cards can be replaced without the risk of someone accessing funds beyond those you placed on the card. Using the app, cardholders can tailor use of the card by time of day, transaction amount, location, merchant type, and other criteria. The Patriot card also provides real-time transaction alerts and can also be turned off immediately in the app if it is lost or stolen. MOCA provides the Patriot card’s exceptional 24/7/365 worldwide customer service. Unlike most other debit cards, the Patriot card offers cardholders cash-back rewards! Finally, a portion of every purchase using the Patriot card funds organizations that support Veterans.
